The Norwegian Government scholarship pool discontinued

Norway discontinues the Norwegian Government scholarship pool and launches new mobility programme for incoming PhD candidates and young scientists to Norway.

As from the academic year 2009-2010 the Research Council of Norway will no longer offer scholarships within the framework of the bilateral cultural agreements and similar scholarship agreements.

Instead it will launch a new mobility programme for incoming PhD candidates and young scientists to Norway, named after the Tree of Life in Old Norse mythology: Yggdrasil. The call for applications will be announced on its website www.rcn.no/is in January 2009 and the closing date for submission of applications is 22 April 2009. Stays in Norway may commence from 1 August 2009. Please check their website for updates.

The above changes will not affect current recipients with scholarships awarded for the academic year 20008-2009.

Finally, these changes implicate that the Research Council of Norway cease to nominate Norwegian candidates for government and similar scholarships offered by other countries (except for China) effective immediately.
