Bilateral trade between Norway and Turkey has seen a significant rise, in relative terms, over the last years, with minor blips along the way. Whereas the import from Turkey saw a marked drop in 2006, preliminary numbers for 2007 indicate that this has returned to growth. For exports to Turkey the development has been the opposite, turning a significant increase in 2006 to a drop in 2007. A large part of this reduction can be ascribed to the fall in Norwegian export of fish to Turkey.
Export to Turkey in 2006: 3,191 billion NOK
Import from Turkey in 2006: 2, 736 billion NOK
The main export commodities to Turkey are LPG, natural gas, highspeed ferries, various ferrous metals, equipment for ships, iron and steel.
The main import commodities are textiles, electrical/telecoms appliances and fruit & vegetables. In addition a large number of Norwegian tourists (Approximate estimate 165 000 for 2007) count towards Norwegian imports from Turkey.
