-I like the album because of its different emotional flavours, the Norwegian songwriter, guitarist and vocalist Ane Brun says about her latest album “It All Starts With One”. The upcoming concert at IKSV Salon in Istanbul Friday 25th of November will include a mix of new and old songs, according to the artist herself.
The concert at IKSV Salon ends Ane Brun’s European Tour this autumn, but it will be her first concert in Turkey. Ane Brun wrote her first song when she was 23, and three years later, in 2002, the debut album Spending Time with Morgan was released in Norway and later worldwide. She has received award nominations from all over Europe for the track, "Temporary Dive" from her first album. Eight albums and nine years later, Ane Brun has moved out of the traditional singer-songwriter suit with the latest released album in September 2011.
Most of the songs for the album “It All Starts With One” were written in January and February 2011. It was at this time that the Arab revolution started and Ane explains how affected she was by the courage and energy that people showed the world:
-For a long time I’d had an idea to write a song about how change begins. That it begins as a feeling or an idea from a person, requiring that it be the first small step at the beginning of the change process. One song was finished the same week as the revolution in Egypt began. The text fell into place when I followed what was going on there.
How will you characterize your last album”It All Starts With One”?
-The songs are bigger, but there's not really so much happening in them. There are not many musicians playing or many layers of music on top of each other. The sound is bigger than before, but it's still very open, almost three dimensional. Each of the ten songs has a strong expression on their own.
One is inspiring,
Oh Love is passionate,
Undertow is desperate,
Words is contemplative. I like the album because of its different emotional flavours.
Where do you get inspiration to write a new song?

-I believe I do have some themes that I return to. A lot has to do with moving forward, changing, dealing with difficult relationships but also a lot about fighting and finding strength. Mostly existential universal stuff, often sprung from personal experience, like a moment or a situation that puzzles me, and I try to understand more about it and myself or other people involved by writing poetry about it.
What are your expectations to the upcoming concert in Istanbul?
- I am excited to meet my Turkish fans in real life. I’ve been in touch with them on the internet for a few years now, and I think this will be a lot of fun to finally get to play live in Istanbul.
The concert starts at 22.00, doors open at 21.00. To buy tickets click here.
